Craft Soiree #3

This is a backtrack post, on a Craft Soiree I attended last December 8, 2012 at Pino restaurant, Jupiter St., Makati.

I have been following a lot of blogs from the US and I really get envious reading about card swaps, craft conventions, etc.

I've always wanted to participate in one!

So when an officemate told me about Life After Breakfast and the many events it hosts, I got so excited! Sure enough, one of the events was a Craft Soiree were different crafters get to meet and exhange handmade items!

I signed up right away! :)

But my excitement turned into worry because I didn't know what craft to make/give, and would it be good enough? would the recipient be happy with it? would they think it's worth the effort they gave on the craft their giving me?

Thankfully, hubby encouraged me to create some of the things I have created before, and as long as I create them with love, the receiver should be happy with it. :)

So here are the items I created, although I would say they are a mix of digital+handmade items.

A Paperclip Bookmark
A Ref Magnet
A Notecard

I really wanted to draw my own design and print them onto the ref magnet, but since baby and I got sick and couldn't do it anymore, I re-used free Precious Moments gifs from the internet and inserted my favorite Bible verses. Actually, I just reused the designs that were in the ref magnets I made for Dana's dedication last month.

I also planned on creating handmade dolls, but that idea is now parked until the next craft soiree I am attending, if I would be attending again. I'm really rather shy. :">

I also planned to create felt accessories and "named bookmarks" separately but again, since we got sick, I had to narrow down these 2 ideas into 1 project --- a tag, attached into the "package" I was giving away:

And lastly, here's my calling card:

So that's it for tonight. It is really a challenge getting sick, a lot of things cannot be done, so do take good care always! :)

Merry Christmas everyone!

3 Wise Men

Here's my other entry for this week's CASology challenge: STAR.

Or should I say... "stars"?! Hihihi. That's coz I love the night starry sky so much. ^^v

But if we were to narrow it down to one star, it would be, the star of Bethlehem since it symbolizes so much -- from God's love, to men's redemption, and the promise of eternal life.

So here's my take at it... a card that shouts "handmade", just in time for the Holidays. I'm actually planning to give this one to my mom tomorrow. :)

I'm not sure if this would pass as "clear and simple" but I hope it does. Since for this card, NO "special tools" were used. I simply tore black construction paper and pasted it on top of a blue one. Then drew silhouettes of the 3 wise men, splattered the top part with glitter glue, wrote "Merry Christmas!" at the bottom (pardon me for my really poor handwriting) and to highlight, used blue gems to form the Star of Bethlehem.

What do you think?

Patchwork Card

What happens when you try to join 4 challenges at once?!? .... A DISASTER!

At least that's how I think this card turned out. ^^v

But my ever loving and supportive hubby says it's "pretty" so I'm posting it anyway! :)

The 4 challenges I am entering are:
I actually first saw the MIM#96 challenge at facebook and I was so inspired and delighted with the heart patchwork that was featured. Then I tried to see if I can come up with something that would align with CASology and CFCs challenges for the week. And consequently, something I can enter into the other challenge linked in CFC.

So... I gathered the materials I was supposed to use for the Craft Soiree I was joining, but were not able to use them because I had no time as baby and I were sick... randomly placed pieces together, and arrived with this card:

I'll really try to come up with something better... If time and circumstances permit.

Meanwhile, tell me what you think? :)

Our Daily Bread

Here's what we're giving away to select, chosen, family and friends... 2013 Our Daily Bread (English, Philippine-published) edition. I had to say Philippine-published because I believe the version we get is a year older than what's released in the US (or somewhere it originates). :p

Anyway, to keep things simple, save on cost and be a bit "earth-friendly", we discarded the idea of gift-wrapping and opted to bind it with a simple ribbon and tag instead

So here it is... A blessed Christmas! :)

Flyers: Cookie Treats

I made these flyers and calling card for my cousin-in-law a while back, had to make them cute and simple to blend with the Logo she presented me with. Also opted to fill it with pink background since it is her favorite color.

More pictures can be found at my fb page: Eclations. =)

Dana's Pull-up Dedication Invitation, Etc

Last November 17, 2012, we finally "dedicated our little Dana unto God."

The occasion was happy and blessed. But of course, it wouldn't pass without any "DIY" from me. This was actually a challenge because it was hard juggling between work and my personal life. But if I can craft for other people, why wouldn't I craft for my most precious, right?

So for this event, I decided to create the invitations, additional souvenirs and other minor stuff. Yey!

The Invitation

The invitations were pull-up surpise cards I learned from here. Although I made some revisions and I also used a digital layout.

The front of the card, a collage of my baby's photos were developed by Picture City. The rest were created and printed at home. For embellishments, I added pink felt butterfly and rose, topped with rhinestone and pearl respectively.

Pulling up the tab at the top reveals the "You're Invited!" message and the dedication details.

For the packaging, I just used a Concorde envelope from National Bookstore, wrapped around with brown felt and pink DMC thread.

The Souvenir

For the souvenirs, we opted to just order more pieces of the Sugar Cookies from Max's Bakeshop. I simply added a personalized tag containing Dana's photo and other details.

But since I thought these were too simple, I created refrigerator magnets as well. In the interest of time, I had to use free precious moments downloadables, and added one favorite Bible verse on each magnet. :)

Table Numbers, Etc.

Lastly, I created the Table Numbers and registration form for the event. I also created notepads for the guests to place their messages for Dana or us.

And so thankfully, by God's amazing grace, everything went well, everyone was happy, our little family was truly blessed. :)

DIY Dolls

So my officemate showed me last month that CRAFT MNL was having a handmade doll-making session (see list of activities here) and I really, really, really, as in really wanted to go!

But since it was far from where I currently live, and I am not comfortable travelling on my own (my officemate couldn't come either)... I had to let it pass... T_T

Then an idea came to mind... why not, conduct our own doll-making session!?

Yep, that's right... our own doll-making session. =)

So my team agreed to meet yesterday, December 1 and create our own DIY dolls.

Did we know what we were doing? Not really.

But after watching a couple of youtube tutorials, we managed to survive and end the day with our own handmade dolls.

The trial version I made a couple of weeks back.
The model of yesterday's session.

Our dolly babies <3

Not bad for starters, right?! =)

I'm just really happy everything turned out fine and we all went home with smiles on our faces and dolls on our embrace. Though some have yet to complete their dolly clothes. Hihihi. :P

A happy, crafty afternoon indeed! :) We'll definitely do this again! :)

On another note... I was really worried at first that after watching tutorials, our dolls would only end up as copy-cats. But I think with our own handrawn pattern and felt hair workaround, our dollies have developed their own identity (unless there are similar dolls out there I haven't seen yet). So right now, we are kinda wondering if we should put-up our patterns for sale, and I'd have to make a video tutorial on how to use them too!

What do you think? :)
